Bolun Shen (b. 1989) is an artist based in Beijing and Chicago.

His practice centers on performance, conceptual art and social intervention. He repeatedly embeds himself, as an outsider, into existing social procedures — street interviews, naturalization sessions, town meeting petitions, ballot mechanisms — letting the operation of the procedure itself become the work. The works follow his ten-clause artist statement: they address public issues, are constructed by participants beyond art professionals, take unambiguous political stances, resolve problems through mechanisms rather than money, treat dissemination as part of the work, and always provide space for both Chinese and English.

He runs long-term projects under the name Action Office, and maintains Video Activism, an ongoing research archive of video essays on global activism.
